New Jersey police officer arrested in Hazleton for alleged driving under the influence
HAZLETON – 45-year-old William F. McCarthy III, a police officer from New Jersey, has been taken into custody and sent to the Luzerne County jail as he got behind the wheel intoxicated and crashed into multiple vehicles in Hazleton.
Multiple witnesses called the police and reported that an erratic driver was striking parked vehicles throughout the city. 2 of the vehicles were travelling when they were struck, said the police.
The cops pulled over the silver Nissan Armada in the area of 15th and Locust Streets with its front-end damaged. Airbags of the motor vehicle were deployed.
The cops charged the officer with:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
- Resisting arrest
- Reckless driving
McCarthy is an officer with the Washington Township police department in Morris County, New Jersey.
